Physical Education

PE and Sport Intent Statement

We recognise that a high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities.

At William de Yaxley CA Academy, we strive to provide PE and Sport opportunities for pupils in order that they become physically confident in a way which supports their health, mental health and overall fitness.

We recognise that opportunities to compete in sport and other activities builds character and helps to embed values such as fairness and respect. The National Curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • Are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities
  • Lead healthy and active lives.

Pupils in Year Five also participate in swimming activities.

Sports Day

We have four teams at Sports Day – Team Murray, Team Hamilton, Team Ennnis-Hill, Team Farah.

A Year 6 class is paired with a Year 4 class, and a Year 5 class is paired with a Year 3 class to make the 4 sports teams.

The children all compete in 5 events – sprint, hurdles, 1 lap of the track, sack race and bean bag shuttle. The first 3 children in each race earn points for their team – 15 points for first, 10 points for second and 5 points for third.

The last event is the team relay, a boy and a girl from each year group races for their team, 1 lap of the field carrying a baton.

In the morning the childrens' families can come and support.
