WestStowe - We go to WestStowe for a day visit which is an Anglo Saxon Village near Bury St Edmunds. This supports our History unit of work entitled 'The Anglo Saxons'. The children explore the museum there which contains artefacts from the Anglo Saxon period and they have an opportunity to dress up as an Anglo Saxon!
They are then given the opportunity to handle artefacts and given clues to guess their use and what they are made from.
Flag Fen – The children imagine themselves as archaeologists and take part in a ‘dig’. Using a spade, a trowel and a brush, they gently remove soil and uncover real and replica artefacts and think about what the archaeological evidence, found within different layers of soil, could tell us about the past.
The children also look at and sit in replica Bronze Age boats as well as learn about real Bronze Age boats that had been discovered and are currently being preserved. Finally, the children go inside a rebuilt Bronze Age roundhouse where they listen to an inspiring story (set in the Bronze Age).
Nativity Production – Each Christmas, Year Three perform a Nativity-themed play in St Peter’s Church, using two different plays on a rolling two-year programme. The children always make us incredibly proud – it is amazing to see their confidence only a few months after joining us in September. We put on a performance to parents so that everyone has the chance to see their child’s big show.
